The year you took a gap year does not affect your NSFAS funding eligibility directly. NSFAS focuses on the total number of years funded and your academic progress. Typically, NSFAS funds a three-year undergraduate programme for one extra year due to academic difficulties, up to a total of five years for a longer course like engineering. Your gap year isn’t counted as a ‘funded’ year, but it might affect the total time considered for completion if it impacts your academic plan.
If your academic performance was satisfactory and you meet the criteria (such as passing a certain percentage of your modules), NSFAS should continue funding. It’s best to double-check by logging into your NSFAS account or contacting NSFAS directly for clarity on their conditions in your specific situation.

Hi Owami, NSFAS will not count the gap year you took as no payments were made to the institution.
If your marks are satisfactory this should not affect your funding eligibility.
